THE SPRING

Fornasari has a little spring of its own. The water is impounded in special reservoirs located in the valley. For years we have drunk only this water, which is drinkable and highly agreeable. When we started accomodating the groups we were provided with water by the waterworks company, both to grant the necessary amount of it to a large number of persons and on sanitary grounds. Water is collected in a reservoir in the stone building and thence easily distributed on the first floor thanks to a surge tank. A pump sends it at the desired temperature to every bathroom.

THE FOREST

The “forest” at the back of the main stone building has been tamed with self-locking paving and around the pool the ground has been levelled off and made comfortably walkable thanks to hollow paving tiles with grass finishing. The solarium beside the pool is fitted with a shower and two taps. It looks out upon the wood stretching at the back of the house, inhabited by numerous squirrels. This portion of the ground is perfect for serving lunch in the open air because constantly shady and breezy, even in the Summer sultry days when in urban areas you cannot breath. The front side of the building faces south and is pleasantly screened by a fresh patio where you can have breakfast and lunch outdoor in spring and autumn.
Casa dell’Abbondanza, in fact, got all the necessary licenses required to run a Bed&Breakfast.

The structure, besides the habitability, enjoys the feasibility for public structures that renders the conduction of a farm very hospitality in Bed& Breakfast. The agricultural is to biological (oganic) address, certified from "Suolo e Salute". It has been recovered the vineyard, it has been installed an orchard with 130 plants between peaches, various apricot trees and cherry-trees of species to progressive maturation, pear trees; 7 productive olive-trees have by now exceeded many winters, that it renders the creation of a oliveyard possible in the land after the orchard, recovered and worked own in order to accommodate new trees.
The wood provides us with plenty of firewood. In the last few years I donated several tons of it to the monks of Monte Mora, who use it as their sole heating fuel. They cut, treat and prepare the wood following the local regulations, and are so gentle and serviceable that they even offered to prepare firewood for me, too, if I only had needed it…. This year they got several stacks of wood ready, and they are now ageing in the bad weather before being chopped down.

Along the narrow paths leading to the vineyard or to Vigoleno grow bushes of blackberries, dog roses (rich with vitamin C) and, first of all, sloes, which the farmers pluck to prepare “bargnolino”, a well-known spirituous beverage, (as well as “nocino”, prepared with walnuts), to be served as after-dinner liqueur. At Casa dell’Abbondanza we also produce homemade vinegar from the “mother” we keep bottled in small demijohns.
